Access the Stillness
“What is found in the stillness is you. The stillness is Full.”
- Healing Key #36 Access the Stillness
The Cancer Full moon on Friday, reminded us to tend to the child that still lives within. Whether we are 30 or 40 or 75, there is a child-self that resides within each of us that needs our love and nurturance. That small self is still overlooked and ignored, asked to be seen but not heard. How often do we neglect our needs, our small and large dreams, and desires. How often do we justify pushing her aside to play big. There’s no time for fun and games, the dinner must be made, and the bills must be paid. The phones must be scrolled. The breath must be unconsciously breathed.
We breathe in and out 22,000 times a day. Almost all, go unnoticed. How often does our chest fill with awareness? How often have we found purpose within that awareness?
Our “Purpose” is always found within. It springs from within, and it’s fulfilled from within. Purpose does not require outside validation. In fact, it can only be validated internally. It is honored with each intentional breath we take. It is found within the stillness, and it is experienced within stillness.
How often do we sit still and silent? If you are anything like me, it is not often. Always fluttering about to the next menial task. No matter how much we move we cannot escape the stillness. It is not something we need to escape. When you have experienced trauma, and no human being escapes trauma, you subconsciously crave chaos. Chaos is familiar and the familiar is comfortable. When you spend years in chaos, the stillness is threatening. It is unfamiliar and therefore, unsafe. We must become familiar with the stillness and that only happens through repeated, intentional exposure.
One day, after many, many days and weeks and months, the stillness becomes a haven. The place you go with your sorrow and uncertainty. It becomes your best friend. It’s where you go to laugh and it’s where you go to cry. It becomes a place of wisdom. Of certainty among the uncertain. The boundaries of stillness blur and it bleeds into every waking moment until the awareness of that stillness is ever present and all-encompassing.
We make a home everywhere else but within our own hearts. The Cancer Full Moon reminded us that true emotional security comes from the stillness within.
As the Moon wanes today in Leo we acknowledge that foundation within ourselves where we stand and honor the brilliance of our own shine. We make a conscious decision to not shy away from our radiance or attempt to dull it, so others won’t see. So, they won’t judge. So, they won’t leave. From the bedrock of emotional security, we understand that our luminosity serves as a streetlamp, a beacon for fellow travelers to access their own source of light and illuminate the path for still others.
